My son Caleb's favorite all time breakfast is pancakes, he requests it almost daily and is eating at least 3-4 pancakes. Buying the frozen kind was adding up in money per week and not to mention a little questionable as to the ingredients that were inside them. I watch what goes into my sons body and monitor most foods he eats, making sure there is no BHT, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Red Dyes etc. I'm VERY aware of GMO's and what's good and what's not. I do a lot of my shopping at Sprouts and Wholefoods to avoid the poisons in some of these foods. Did you know my son is almost 8 years old and just this last week I allowed him his first and only Hostess cupcake? We just don't buy these kind of things..
So I went on another "money saving" how to make your own pancake search on Pinterest and found this wonderful recipe here. This is now a regular staple in this house, I have since make dozens of pancakes with these natural cheap ingredients. They are thick, yummy and yields quite a bit. I store the leftover batter in the fridge for the next morning, they aren't as fluffy but equally yummy. I bought a couple storage containers and keep the dry ingredients in our food pantry, so easy and now a major go to.
Do you make your own pancakes from scratch?
Here's what you'll need:
9 cups of flour
4 1/2 teaspoons of salt
1/2 cup baking powder
1 cup of sugar
In in a big bowl, mix all your ingredients together and store in a container
When you're ready to make pancakes, just stir together 1 cup of pancake mix, 1 egg, 1 cup of milk, and I tablespoon of oil. For Waffles: do the above but add 2 eggs! This makes about 8-9 pancakes or 6 waffles.
Also can add in other ingredients to make it that more yummy, like: chocolate chips, applesauce, nutmeg, nuts etc.
